Multilayer additive manufacturing of catalyst-coated membranes for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells by inkjet printing

چکیده
Inkjet printing is a versatile, contactless and accurate material deposition technology. The present work focused on developing innovative strategies for inkjet of Catalyst-Coated Membranes (CCM) by performing Additive Manufacturing (AM) applied to Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC), without resorting intermediate substrates. Three different approaches AM are presented discussed: a) inkjet-printing the membrane ionomer layer top catalyst layer; b) both layers onto membrane; c) as well reinforcement membrane. produced were characterized proved uniform in terms loading (0.2–0.4 0.08 mgPt cm?2 cathode anode, respectively), distribution thickness homogeneity (4 ?m layers). fully inkjet-printed CCM outperformed conventionally made assemblies electrochemical-performance testing, even reaching 15% higher power density.

Catalyst supports for polymer electrolyte fuel cells.
A major challenge in obtaining long-term durability in fuel cells is to discover catalyst supports that do not corrode, or corrode much more slowly than the current carbon blacks used in today's polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Such materials must be sufficiently stable at low pH (acidic conditions) and high potential, in contact with the polymer membrane and under exposure to hydrogen ...
متن کاملF FFC-NMR of Catalyst Layer Materials for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells
1 H and 19 F spin lattice relaxation rates of catalyst layer materials (CLM) of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells were measured by the fast field cycling (FFC) method. In contrast to ionomer membranes, 1 H relaxation rates of adsorbed water in both platinumKetjen black (Pt-KB) catalyst powder and CLM were strongly dependent on Larmor frequency approximated by a power law due to the strong...
متن کاملMechanical Properties of Nafion and Titania/Nafion Composite Membranes for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells
Measurements of the mechanical and electrical properties of Nafion and Nafion/titania composite membranes in constrained environments are reported. The elastic and plastic deformation of Nafion-based materials decreases with both the temperature and water content. Nafion/titania composites have slightly higher elastic moduli. The composite membranes exhibit less strain hardening than Nafion. Co...

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell is a promising zero-emission power generator for stationary/automotive applications. However, key issues, such as performance and costs, are still remained for an economical commercialization. Here, we fabricated a high-performance membrane electrode assembly (MEA) using an interfacial design based on well-arrayed micro-patterned membranes including circle...
متن کاملNumerical analysis of reactant transport in the novel tubular polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells
In present work, numerical analysis of three novel PEM fuel cells with tubular geometry was conducted. Tree different cross section was considered for PEM, namely: circular, square and triangular. Similar boundary and operational conditions is applied for all the geometries. At first, the obtained polarization curve for basic architecture fuel cells was validated with experimental data and then...
